Acorn Works

Washroom Refurbishment - Norwich, Norfolk

Following a successful initial project on this site last year, Broads Edge Marina once again commissioned Acorn Works to deliver a washroom refurbishment within their new campsite shower and toilet block.

Once the piling contractor had set the 115 piles, the beam and block slab was poured and then insulated, followed by the client’s nominated building contractor, who took the building to watertight stage when Acorn took over as main contractor.

The standard for each aspect of the works was set at a high level, including a cutting edge under floor heating and pressurised hot water systems, utilising the latest in air source heat pump technology, which was designed in house at Acorn along with our partner contractors. New high pressure water main pumps were installed, along with large capacity hot and cold water storage in the building’s roof space, which was completed as an easily accessible plant room, leaving only three condensers outside to bother the planning authority.

Opened in time for the summer camping season in 2016, we have now had the chance to evaluate the systems against their design. The client was pleasantly surprised to see that the back-up oil-fired boiler had never had to come on line to back up the primary systems, meaning the running costs of the whole block were well under the design criteria.

The finished block was complemented with a full LED lighting scheme inside and out, new HD CCTV cameras and hard disc drive all accessible via a mobile phone app and full access control to each area.

Carefully chosen screening for the outside plant items and some hard and soft landscaping completed a facility to rival the best available for a campsite in the UK.
