Workshop expansion and mezzanine floor - Diss
A workshop expansion for this hi-tech motorsports engineering, design and manufacturing company, based in Redgrave, Diss.
Project Outline
This project saw us transforming an empty, adjacent industrial unit into a two floor workshop and canteen area, complete with toilet facilities and custom built work benches.
After initial consultation we were able to develop the specification together with the client to plan for exactly how they wanted to use the area. To make the most of the available space, a mezzanine floor was installed to create a first floor area. Partition walls were constructed to enclose the staircase and the newly created upper floor.
The outer walls were dry lined to give a clean, decorated area to work from on both floors. Works to the first floor included fitting kitchen units to form the large, open-plan canteen area. Additional storage cupboards and worktop space were fitted, with a sloped suspended ceiling to maximise the ceiling height where possible.
The ground floor layout was transformed into a large workshop with new hi-spec flooring and custom built workbenches to suit the client’s needs, made from scratch on site with supplied timber. Two new toilets were also constructed, for which we carried out all the plumbing works.
A full electrical fit-out was also conducted by Acorn with new LED lighting and power supplied to each bench location.

Project Challenges
The challenges presented were related to the actual building itself, thanks to it being a fairly unique construction. Our workplace designers created a layout to best maximise the available space. The new mezzanine floor was installed to suit the shape of the building while ensuring that the supporting columns were positioned to suit the eventual ground floor layout.
